OUR NEW
SHELTER

NEENA RAO FAMILY ANIMAL CARE & ADOPTION CENTER.

NEW SHELTER CAMPAIGN

On Tuesday, October 18th the Montgomery County SPCA officially broke ground on the Neena Rao Family Animal Care & Adoption Center.

We are creating a space which will enable our organization to provide optimal care for the animals we serve, and to serve as many as possible.

The building project was originally envisioned to update the more than 65-year-old current facility to accommodate program expansion in the following areas:

  • Humane education

  • Low-cost spaying and neutering services

  • Sheltering

  • Community volunteer opportunities

The need for the programs and expanded space has been proven out over the past year, with 2021 being a record year for adoptions from the MCSPCA. Sheltering is just one of the services that the MCSPCA will better provide with the new building. The project is designed to meet the needs of the local area and best serve the animal population for years to come.

Our Neena Rao Animal Care Center will bring increased functionality to make it a warm and welcoming place for animals in our care. Our new shelter will create an enriching space for cats that is also welcoming for adopters and allows for a more natural interaction between humans and felines. For the dogs in our care, the planned building will offer state-of-the-art facilities and training areas for professional interaction.

Humane education programs will keep pets and families together, and launching low-cost spay and neuter services for the community means that this important service will be available in-house, saving us on costs and increasing the number of pets we can serve.

Community volunteer opportunities will allow us to increase our reach to seniors, citizens with disabilities, children, and others who want to volunteer to help care for animals in our community. We will be able to train and organize volunteers better in our new shelter, and invite more groups to be a part of the MCSPCA’s great work.
